I Am... Latkes Recipe

Do you have any food obsessions with things that you haven't even eaten yet? Maybe you see a picture, or hear about a dish that you haven't even been in the same room as, but you build it up in your mind as the greatest thing ever? This happens to me all the time. Case in point: potato pancakes.

I Am... Spiced Apple Cider Recipe

I'm back in Vancouver for a week and my friends, it is cold here! I think my body has permanently acclimatized to the warm weather of Southern California. I'm not complaining though. Cold weather is the perfect excuse for extra cuddles, heart-warming stews and spiced apple cider. Not that one needs excuses for those things.

I Am... Turkey Shepherd's Pie Recipe

Shepherd's pie was my all time ultimate favourite thing to eat growing up. More than mac and cheese, more than grilled cheese and even more than french fries, I would choose shepherd's pie as my meal of choice. There was something about the combination of ground meat and mashed potatoes that was so, so good to me. Even now, a bowl of shepherd's pie tastes like home, happiness and comfort.

I Am... Pumpkin Red Curry Udon

Do you have a favourite noodle? I profess to love all noodles (and I do!) but if there was ever a Asian noodle smack down, I'd be in udon's corner. Udon is often overlooked in the noodle world. People sing praises about ramen and soba, but there isn't a lot of udon love going around. Why isn't there an udon burger friends? I'd dig that. To me, udon is the perfect noodle: thick, chewy, and humble. Udon doesn't need the limelight - he isn't afraid to sit back and let the flavours of your dish really shine through.

I Am... Tater Tot Breakfast Nacho Recipe

Do you ever wonder why tater-tots are only served by Mexican fast food joints? Why are tater-tots Mexican and French fries French? These are the kinds of deep questions that flow through my mind at 4 in the morning after marathon watching seven episodes of MasterChef Junior.

I Am... Quinoa Salad with Hazelnuts, Apple and Dried Cranberries

Do you remember the first time you heard about quinoa? I was one of those people who totally thought it was pronounced "kwin-NO-ah." But after a couple of confused looks, I started saying "keen-WAH." To this day I still have no idea which way is the correct way, but everyone seems to say "keen-WAH," so I go with that. Confusion aside, quinoa is one of my favourite grains. It has nothing to do with it's healthiness and everything to do with it's deliciousness. I love it's fluffy, nutty texture.

I Am... Acorn Squash Breakfast Pudding Recipe

Now that it's fall my oven is being abused heavily. One of my favourite things to do: roast squash. Roast squash is delicious on its own (I almost ate all of it while I was assembling this pudding — it was in danger of becoming squash-less) but even more delicious when you toss it into other dishes. Squash instantly gives things a holiday harvest feel. I especially love how tiny acorn squashes are compared to butternut or spaghetti. I have a major obsession with tiny food and acorn squash is probably the tiniest squash that is edible and delicious.

I Am... Pumpkin Chocolate Pancake Recipe

Halloween might be over, but pumpkins are still in fashion around my home and will be for a while. It's hard not to fall in love with pumpkin flavoured things, especially when they're all spiced up and studded with chocolate. Pumpkin chocolate pancakes with whipped mascarpone is the perfect breakfast.

I Am... Totoro Spam Musubi Recipe

Happy Halloween Eve! I'm not dressing up this year — every year I have big plans to paper mâché a giant bunny head, or sew myself a Totoro suit, but inevitably I just end up looking at thousands of photos on Pinterest and end up making nothing. Nonetheless, I love Halloween and decided to dress-up some of my food in lieu dressing up myself.

I Am... Poached Eggs in Tomato Sauce Recipe

I am a big egg lover. There's no denying how much I love eggs. I will eat eggs at every meal if possible. I don't think the whole "throw an egg on it" trend is passé. No, for me, it's a way of life. I'm especially happy that the tide has turned for the good regarding eggs and how "healthy" they are.

I Am... Chicken Congee with Crispy Chicken Skin Recipe

I'm feeling a tiny bit under the weather lately, which usually ends up in me craving the Chinese food of my childhood. I've never been one of those people who don't like to eat when they're sick. In fact, I'm the complete opposite, where I'll pretty much eat anything and everything in an attempt to get better. It's a twisted sort of logic: I figure my body needs fuel to fight off whatever sickness I have, so I'll use being sick as an excuse to stuff my face.

I Am... Mapo Tofu Waffle Recipe

I love tofu, probably because I grew up eating it. It's fairly standard in Chinese cuisine and when I was a kid, we ate it at least twice a week for dinner. I know a lot of people who don't like the taste or texture, but for me, it's incredibly comforting and delicious.
