I Am... Friday Finds: 3.27.2015

Whomp! It's Friday, again. This week I've been thinking a lot about chips. Are you guys chip fans? My absolute favorite are kettle cooked chips; I'll take kettle cooked chips over regular any day. In a pinch I'll do Pringles, but they're not my fave. Sometimes I think I should start my own artisanal chip company just so I could eat freshly fried chips all the time. I'm obsessed with wish chips (chips that are folded over themselves that offer maximum crunch) so I'd make sure that every chip was a wish chip. It'd be a blast coming up with all the flavours. If you guys could own a factory, what would it be?!

I Am... Tofu Fries with Sesame Honey Garlic

Do you guys ever google people you know? This morning I went on a little indulgent google search for people that I've lost touch with (okay fine, I was really googling my and Mike's exes for fun). Five minutes later I came up with nothing, and got bored, but then I started freaking out because my life is basically an open book on the internet...

I Am... Broccoli Soba Bowl Recipe

This is the kind of super simple meal I throw together when I don't have much in the fridge – maybe just a couple of languishing stalks of broccoli. This happens more often than I'd like because I'm really bad at making grocery lists. You know how they tell you to not go to the grocery store and shop when you're hungry? Well, if I go to the grocery store when I'm not hungry I end up buying next to nothing. If I don't have list, it's even worse.

I Am... Hello Spring! Crispy Coconut Waffles with Mango

It’s Sunday! You know what that means: it’s time for Sunday Brunch. Why don’t you skip the line and make brunch at home this week? The coffee’s truly bottomless, the booze doesn’t have a crazy markup and you can chill out in your pajamas. Every Sunday I’ll post a brunch recipe. Soon you won’t be asking, where should we go for brunch – instead it’ll be, what should we make for brunch today?
The other day I was reading an article about how in this day and age, true love is waiting to binge watch TV shows with your significant other. Let me tell you what true love looks like in my house. On Thursday night after Mike and I had a really large lunch with a friend, we decided to skip out on eating a real dinner. Mike said he wasn't hungry but I was feeling munch-y so I made myself some nachos.

I Am... Friday Finds: 3.20.15

Ohmygosh, this week was rough. I had the worst flu – I was so stuffed up I lost my sense of taste. I ate three Ferrero Rochers in a row, convinced with each consecutive chocolate that I would be able to taste again. No go. But, I'm on the mend now so soon ALL the Ferrero Rochers will be eaten (and tasted). I'm really looking forward to the weekend now that my tastebuds aren't wacky anymore. Do you guys have any big plans?

I Am... Shepherd’s Pie Grilled Cheese

Remember that shepherd's pie topped with roasted garlic cream cheese mashed potatoes I made last week? It was so good that Mike and I almost inhaled the entire pan in one sitting. As we were eating, I was getting a little worried that we wouldn't have any leftovers. See, I'm a huge fan of leftovers – especially when you take them and turn them into something else. Something else like this insane shepherd's pie grilled cheese. Yup, I literally put a piece of shepherd's pie between two(!) grilled cheese sandwiches to make a crazy, carbo-licious sandwich monstrosity.

I Am... Breakfast Quesadillas with Broccoli, Cheddar and Eggs

Remember how I said I bought eight heads of broccoli? We've finished off the lot and if anything it's spurned on an even greater broccoli obsession. Seriously, the stuff tastes good on everything! Case in point: these scrambled egg, broccoli and cheese filled breakfast quesadillas.

I Am... Friday Finds: 3.13.15

I can't believe it's Friday the 13th again! That's twice already this year – what is up with that?! I hope this doesn't mean that 2015 is extra unlucky or something. I'm just going to pretend it's Saturday and not worry about it. But, you know what I am worried about? Now that the weather's turning all spring-like, there's a sudden influx of spiders everywhere. I try to ignore them cause I know they're just living their little spidey lives not even aware of my existence, but every time I see them I freak out. It's like they're multiplying. I see one...then I spot another...and another...it's giving me the creepy crawlies – I need to stop thinking about them. Or stop going outside?!

I Am... Shepherd’s Pie with Roasted Garlic Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes

Is there anything more delicious than shepherd's pie? Savory meat swimming in gravy, studded with tender vegetables topped off with smooth and fluffy mashed potatoes? Dream meal right there. Shepherd's pie is one of my ultimate comfort foods. I think I could eat it for every meal straight for a week and not be sick of it. Pie day is coming up (March 14th, get it?!) so I made this guy to celebrate pie of the shepherd's variety.

I Am... Cheddar Cheese Broccoli Tots

So...broccoli was on sale at the store and because I have a wee bit of broccoli obsession, I bought a huge bunch. I'm talking like 8 heads of broccoli. Mike really likes broccoli too so it wasn't difficult for us to finish them off. I hear that broccoli isn't really a popular veggie – I'm guessing that some people think that it's boring, but I really love its crunch, its color, and the texture difference between the florets and the stems.

I Am... Crispy Roasted Potatoes with Burrata

The other day I was getting dressed in the bedroom when I overheard Mike singing in the kitchen. Normally he's quite a decent singer, but this particular song had him sounding like a dying whale and because I'm a horribly mean person who LOVES teasing him, I had no issues with telling him so.

I Am... Friday Finds: 3.5.2014

I don't want to jinx it, but the weather has been absolutely gorgeous lately. A true spring with fresh, crisp, dewy mornings and afternoons that warm up just a bit. The sunshine feels so good and even thought it's not nearly warm enough – more like chilly with a lot of light, Mike and I have been hanging out on our little deck with a blankets and a portable heater. I'm excited for spring!
