I Am... Bun Bo Hue Recipe: The Spicy Vietnamese Noodle Soup You Never Knew You Loved
Any good cook will tell you that soups are a labour of love. Generally, they take time and a little bit of effort, but like any thing that is worth waiting for, they are absolutely heartwarming. Soups, especially noodle soups, are my go to bowl of comfort. I love the combination of textures (solid and liquid, squishy and firm), the slurping, the messiness, the fun, the satisfaction.

These waffles are what I imagine Christmas morning tastes like. Usually our family Christmas brunches are more of the dim sum variety, but if I ever were to branch out and have a cozy Christmas morning, just Mike and I, I'd love to spend a lazy time eating gingerbread cardamom waffles with vanilla buttermilk syrup and plenty of crispy bacon.

It's full on Christmas decorations and music over here in Tokyo. I can't wait to buy myself a traditional Christmas cake! Apparently, they celebrate Christmas by eating fried chicken (preferably from KFC) and having a strawberries and cream Christmas cake for dessert. Christmas cake is definitely something I can get down with!

I find December incredibly hectic, more so than any other month. There are always a bunch of things I'm forever falling behind on, so I always remind myself to take a break when I need it because when I get stressed, I go a little crazy. Whenever I feel like I need a pick me up I make a grilled cheese, because: grilled cheese. There's nothing more relaxing than biting into a crispy, crunchy sandwich and watching the snow softly fall outside the window. Don't forget to slow down and take some time to make yourself (and your loved ones!) a grilled cheese this season. Heck, make yourself two – you deserve it!

To me, travelling inevitably means one thing: good eats I can’t find at home. I almost always fall for hype so you might find me patiently waiting in the longest line with my camera and empty stomach. Or you might find me in that undiscovered little gem, tucked inside a questionable neighbourhood, a fork (or chopsticks!) in hand and smile on my face. Regardless of which city I’m in, you’ll always find me chasing deliciousness. Read More →I Am... Turkey Pho Recipe
We had Thanksgiving at my brother's house this year (back when it was Canadian Thanksgiving, over a month ago!) and the part I was most looking forward to was the leftovers: specifically, the turkey bones. I had thought that my mom was making the turkey and bringing it over so I was certain that she'd let me have them. When I arrived (bringing along a simple quinoa salad), I realized that my sister-in-law was the official turkey roaster of the night. All of a sudden I got a little shy and didn't want to ask for the bones.

I can't remember the first time I had a banh mi, but I do remember that once I started, I didn't stop. Mike and I have even gone on (multiple) banh mi crawls before...in multiple cities. No, nothing quite as exciting as a banh mi road trip, but, if we're in a city known for banh mi, we'll definitely make the rounds. We've even found a banh mi place here in Tokyo! We haven't tried it out yet, but it's on our giant map of things we'd like to eat.

It's Friday! Are you guys out Black Friday shopping? Even if I were in the States, I definitely wouldn't be – I can't bear crowds. Which is slightly hilarious considering how crowded Tokyo is. But, the thing is, there are tonnes and tonnes of side streets that are totally deserted. Which means Mike and I have been having a lot of fun taking random photos. We've also been stuffing our faces, mostly with udon, ramen, and soba, because if you know me, you know that I'm noodle folk.

I had a childhood friend who was obsessed with brussels sprouts. She loved eating them boiled and plain - no salt, no seasoning, nothing. She loved them so much that it never occurred to her that not everyone felt the same way. I went over for a sleepover once and she got really excited because she asked her mom to make us brussels sprouts, just the way she liked them. Unfortunately, to my brussels sprouts uninitiated self, they were, um, disgusting. I had one to be polite and then offered her the rest of mine, which she happily ate. I am a huge sprouts lover now, but that's mostly because I've tasted them the way they're destined to be prepared: roasted.
