I Am... Cheesy, Saucy, Crunchy Handheld Two-Bite Mini Lasagna Cups
How was your weekend? We had a stat holiday here yesterday so I spent the weekend doing long weekend things – that is, absolutely no work and lots and lots of eating. Mike and I went to Costco, which is one of my favorite things to do, because samples. I love, love, love mini things and samples are (free!) mini bites. I'm the only sample lover in my house though. Mike's not down with waiting in lines for tiny bites of food. It was a little (okay, a lot) crazy at Costco this week, so I skipped out on the samples too, which made me kind of sad, but then we went out for some banh-mi which is way better than samples, so I cheered up really quick.

I love cinnamon buns. So much so that I purposely plan my way through the mall to avoid Cinnabon. If I end up smelling them, I'll end up buying one and eating the whole thing. Which isn't such a bad thing, but sometimes you've gotta save your tummy space, you know?

Time is flying! I don't know if it's because we're in the middle of moving or just because we're back in North America, but it seems like the days are just blowing by! Please stop time! I need more hours in the day...I've been a little stressed out over here and have been eating entirely too much of a frozen Deep and Delicious McCains chocolate cake that I stress bought the other day. Frozen cake is sooooooooo good. Also, I did a Trader Joe's run and now my freezer is filled up with chicken potsickers which makes me so, so happy. You guys don't judge my frozen dumpling addiction, do you?! Frozen dumplings are the bomb!

Have you ever felt so cold you just can't warm up no matter how hot the room gets? Just two weeks ago (my gosh, it feels like forever, though!) Mike and I were in Japan. Right before heading home we decided to do a little bit of train travel. First up on my list was Sapporo, on the northernmost island, Hokkaido.

Mike and I went out for dinner with a friend last night at a Vietnamese-Cambodian place. The tables are arranged so that you're basically sitting at the same table as the people next to you. I couldn't help overhearing what appeared to be an extremely awkward first date situation. It made me feel so bad for both the guy and the girl. But maybe more so for the guy because he was just trying so hard without getting any response, positive or negative from the girl.

Please tell me that you've stayed at one of those roadside hotels where they offer free biscuits and gravy for breakfast? The biscuits and gravy aren't that good, but even the sad beds look enticing after hours and hours on the highway. It's been a while since I've stayed in one of those hotels but biscuits and gravy always remind me of road trips.

I can hardly believe it, but I am a Food Blog is come up on three years old! Waaaaay back in 2012, my very first post was Afternoon Beer, a little Valentine's Day treat I thought up for Mike. This year, to celebrate my blog birthday and Valentine's day, I thought I'd do a Afternoon Beer redux.

It's Friday!! More specifically, the last Friday in January. How did we end up here? In other news, I managed to fall down the stairs yesterday. Granted, our staircase is only a whopping four steps, but I still felt pretty silly and both my butt and my ego are a little bruised. I mean, I thought I had stairs down! It's funny because just a couple of hours previous, I broke a beer glass and Mike was asking me how I managed to live without ever looking in the direction of what I’m doing...Well, I was totally looking down at the stairs but I might have been distracted by the box of fried chicken I was holding. It's okay though – I saved the fried chicken while falling. No pieces of fried chicken were lost!

I'm not the hugest fan of sports. However, I am a HUGE fan of Superbowl Sunday because I love the idea of people hanging around a TV eating what I think of as the best foodstuffs: tacos, nachos, and wings. Recently, a friend and I were chatting about "cool girls." You know the ones: they like hanging out with the boys, know exactly which teams are playing, drink loads of beer, eat wings without getting sauce all over their faces, and are effortlessly hot.

It's the wee hours of Sunday morning and if there's something I know, it's that I'm not going to be brunching today. I'm still incredibly jet-lagged (we flew back on Thursday!), which isn't such a bad thing for us night owls. I rather enjoy being awake while the entire city is asleep. I've always had a thing for that space in between, when everyone is either falling asleep or waking up.

So...I'm back in Vancouver! We just finished off our Tokyo trip with a whirlwind week of train travel: up to Hokkaido, down to Kyoto and really really down to Fukuoka. And now we're home! I was dreading the flight back (sometimes I get motion sick), but it turned out to be okay. I even watched two and a half movies! But ugh, that half movie. I'm dying of suspense – I'm totally going to watch it after I finish this post. Especially since even thought I swore I wouldn't get jet-lagged, it's 3 in the morning and I'm wide awake and strangely hungry. A 3am movie and some snacks sound like the perfect way to start the weekend.
